Derby

Acrylic on canvas

180 × 250 cm

2018

Derby presents a closed system of motion structured as a circular compression of bodies — horses, riders, and fragmented forms. The composition operates not as a depiction of a race, but as a mechanism of repetition without release.

The figures are condensed into a rotating mass, where individual identity dissolves into function. Movement becomes structural rather than narrative, forming a self-contained cycle governed by internal pressure.

Beneath the visible surface, skeletal elements emerge, indicating the cost embedded within the system itself. The background functions as a field of accumulated presence — layered faces and traces forming a silent archive of participation.

The work examines motion as a condition of entrapment, where energy, effort, and acceleration do not lead to resolution, but remain within a continuous loop.
